TRUST 1 is a healthy relationship skill-building program for justice-involved youth living in Sacramento, Placer, and Yolo county between the ages of 12-18. Justice-involved youth are youth who have been on the punitive side of our justice system on some level. This program uses an evidence-based curriculum proven to foster relationships among youth with trusted adults and reduce the risk of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Alumni of our programs are eligible for our Youth Engagement Squad (Y.E.S. Squad). This multimedia project engages youth in creative expression about their experience with their communities. Both TRUST 1 and the Youth Engagement Squad are rewarded with gift cards among other incentives for their completion.
The goal of this program is to reach 625 youth each year to enhance personal development, critical thinking skills, and education surrounding interpersonal relationships while reducing rates of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Youth Engagement Squad aims to empower the youth’s voice in their own community.
This program gives youth the opportunity to share perspectives in a safe, nonjudgemental space. This program aims to meet the needs of some of the health disparities we see in our communities.
Youth gain many skills and rich conversations among peers and adult educators. In addition to this, TRUST 1 provides the opportunity for justice-involved youth access to free counseling sessions from our clinical counselors. Incentives for the program include gift cards and materials that can be utilized for school or creative expression. Youth also have the opportunity to be introduced to other organizations in collaboration with this program to pursue additional opportunities.
Currently, each person who completes the TRUST 1 program can receive a $100 Walmart gift card. For completion of the Youth Engagement Squad program, we offer $150 visa gift cards.
